Breakfast Platter

It’s the most important meal of the day: breakfast. To make sure yours gets started off right, you need to visit the best breakfast places, not the chains with their sad breakfast sandwiches. Here in Charles City, IA, we have plenty of good choices with fresh ingredients that will get your day started the right way.

Dave’s Restaurant

You’ll find Dave’s over at 809 S. Grand Ave, and they’re open from 6:30 am until 3:00 pm most days. On Fridays, they stay open until 8 pm and offer an amazing prime rib special and buffet. On Sundays, they don’t open until 8 am. But you’re here for breakfast, not a prime rib special, as great as that might be, and Dave’s delivers.

They have a host of amazing pancake options, including Mickey Mouse pancakes and specialty buttermilk pancakes with bananas and pecans. The biscuits and gravy are homemade and mouthwatering, and the ribeye steak and eggs will satisfy the pickiest carnivore. Other great options include their bargain breakfasts for those with a light appetite and quick sides like delicious cinnamon rolls or oatmeal.

Rick’s Wagon Wheel

Rick’s is located a quick ten minutes up 218 to 68 Monroe St. in Floyd. They’re open from 6 am until 9 pm every day but Sunday, when they close a little early at 8 pm. But don’t worry: they serve breakfast all day long, so no matter when you need your ham and eggs, you can get them at Rick’s Wagon Wheel. This is a clean, quality place that’s family-friendly and places a premium on good service.

Breakfast favorites include classics like scrambled eggs, eggs and breakfast meat with toast, Sammy’s (chipped beef over Texas toast), and hash brown skillets or pancakes. You can also get combinations or build your own with breakfast sides. Give their corn beef hash or caramel rolls a try! The omelets are also very satisfying.

Taco John’s

Yes, Taco John’s is a taco place, but if you’d like something a little different (and very delicious) for your morning meal, give this a try. Their mix of American and Western flavors is great. Find them at 905 Gilbert St, opening from 7 am every weekday and at 8 am on the weekends. The food here is consistently fresh and flavorful.

For breakfast, try their meat and potato burrito, which comes with your choice of meat (bacon, chorizo, or sirloin steak) and your choice of side. Get a cold brew mocha to go with it! We also love the scrambler breakfast burrito and the spicy chorizo burrito. That one will really get you going in the morning! If you prefer a bowl to a burrito, they offer a deconstructed burrito over a bowl of fried potatoes.

We love these places for a hearty breakfast, and we think you will, too. Once you’ve filled up and are ready for the day, be sure to stop by Mike Molestead Motors and check out what we have in our inventory.
