Dodge Durango Hellcat

The Durango is back for another year, and it’s just as impressive as ever. With luxurious interior features, incredible performance, and high-end technology, there is no other SUV like it on the market. When it comes down to choosing a trim level, that’s where things may get tricky. Two of our favorites are the SRT and the SRT Hellcat. Both of these Durango trim levels offer beautiful finishes, power, and various other features. There are some distinct differences between the two, however.

The SRT Hellcat Engine

With the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, you get an incredibly powerful engine. This Supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI SRT V-8 Hellcat engine boasts an impressive 710 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission and a rear-wheel-drive system to help you navigate any road condition smoothly.

You’ll get up to an estimated 21 mpg on the highway; with a large 18.5-gallon tank, even with that extra power, you won’t have to stop to fill up as often. You can haul up to 8,700 pounds, making it easy to take along the camper, boat, or trailer loaded down with other toys for a weekend of fun.

Generous SRT Power

The Durango SRT also comes with an incredible engine design. You get a HEMI 6.4-liter V-8 engine that produces up to 470 pound-feet of torque and 475 horsepower. This trim also comes with a rear-wheel-drive system, eight-speed automatic transmission, and 18.5-gallon tank. An impressive towing capacity of 8,700 pounds can also be found with the SRT. You’ll get slightly better fuel economy at an estimated 25mpg highway without the additional horsepower. Each is powerful, but the SRT Hellcat has the SRT beat on the track.

Engine Comparison

The engines are the significant difference between these two Dodge SUV options. It’s no surprise that the Hellcat is faster and more powerful than the SRT. The Hellcat can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, while the SRT can make it in 4.6 seconds. If you’re a proficient driver, you may be able to handle both about the same, thanks to the effortless transmission shifting. The SRT offers a throatier exhaust sound, and shares the same suspension, tires, and even has the option to add the Hellcat’s braking system.

Additional Comparisons

We know that drivers look for more than just performance when shopping for a new car. The SRT will come with exterior options such as 20-inch black aluminum wheels, while the SRT Hellcat comes with 20-inch machined wheels with painted accents. Both come with LED lighting throughout, including the signature Racetrack taillamp. Both also come with a series of driver assistance and safety features to help keep you protected while on the road.

These features include a blind-spot monitoring system, adaptive cruise control with stop, and rain brake support. You’ll also find features such as forward collision warning with active braking, blind-spot monitoring, and a LaneSense lane departure warning.
