2. McIntosh Woods State Park

Founded in 1944, this Iowa state park offers a myriad of facilities and recreational opportunities that make it a well-known recreational spot throughout the entire year.

McIntosh Woods State Park is located approximately 45 miles west of Charles City and can be reached in less than one hour via route US-18. This state park is particularly popular among anglers and water lovers, as it provides plenty of fishing piers and boat ramps to access Clear Lake. Fish cleaning stations and a swimming beach are also available here. Other activities visitors can enjoy include mountain biking, camping, wildlife watching, and hiking.

3. George Wyth State Park

A prime location among birdwatchers and wildlife photographers, George Wyth State Park opened its doors to the public in 1940 and is another fantastic destination where you can enjoy nature without driving too far from the city. Covering more than 1,200 acres, this nature reserve features over five miles of multipurpose nature trails, fishing piers, boat ramps, and a popular swimming beach. Driving here from Charles City takes approximately 45 minutes via route US-218.
